Week 2, Activity 4 - A Long Walk to Freedom

For this activity, please imagine that you are Mr Mandela and that you are living at Robben Island prison. You have been given a journal and each night you write in it. On your blog, write a journal entry imagining that you are Mr Mandela. What do you think he did each day? How did he feel? Include as much detail as you can in the journal entry. I hope you enjoy!

  1. Kia ora Zephaniah its me Mahuta here. Hope you are enjoying the Summer earning journey. How are you? I am great. I really liked reading the start of Mr Mandela journal you wrote. It was so interesting and pretty scary because you never know what could happen there. I really don't want to go to prison. I'm sure nobody wants to. I hope you keep up the great work and comment on my blog some day. http://kpsmahutah.blogspot.com/
    Blog you later:)

  2. Kia ora Zephaniah,

It's me again, Tayla! I hope you're having a nice Friday!

Wow, I am blown away by your diary entry, Zephaniah. You use very descriptive words and there is a lot of emotion in your writing. You have done an incredible job of imagining what it would have been like for Nelson Mandela, and then putting that into writing.

You should be very proud of this piece of work! You've included facts about Nelson Mandela's life in your own words, as well as the thoughts and emotions he most likely experienced.

Do you enjoy writing, Zephaniah? It was one of my favourite things to do when I was at school :)

    Keep up the great work!

    Ngā mihi,
    Tayla
